Branches of Government

In class today we explored the 3 Branches of the United States Government.  In groups we read information about each branch, watched brief videos describing the separation of power, and completed graphic organizers using the information.  The information and videos can be found on our class wiki.
In your opinion why did our Forefathers decide to use three branches for our central government?

  1. I believe our forefathers decided to use three equal branches of government, because they had just fought to earn their freedom and they did not want to be ruled by a king again. The forefathers were concerned that if one person was allowed to rule the country that that person might become to powerful and begin to abuse that power. They were not about to throw away the freedom they had just fought so hard to earn, so they decided upon a form of government with three equal parts so that no one would have to much power. - Jake

  2. I think they decided to use three different branches because it would be easier to organize. Also, it would be easier to understand and know what each branch includes. If it weren’t like that, it would be harder to understand because it would be all jammed together. It wouldn’t be very organized either because there would just be like a big long list. Another reason is that if it weren’t like that it would be hard on the government to make changes as well.

  3. I think that our government chose three branches because than it is more fair for the people because than there isn’t just one leader. If there was one leader they might be to power thirsty and take over the whole country. It is a better idea to have several people deciding on the rules instead of one person dictating a whole country. I think it is better to have people understand their work, the government, and the U.S. so that they can make a decision that is best for the people.

  4. I think that our founding fathers decided to make three branches in our central government because, they were all used to one king, one source of power. They were doing everything they could to keep from having one man in charge.

  5. Our Forefathers made 3 branches of government, because when we separated from England we hated the king. In our government, we didn't want for one person to have all the power. We decided on 3 branches of government to equal out all our powers in the government so no one could get too much power.

  6. I think that they had the three branches because they didn't want anyone to have too much power. They wanted checks and balances so that the three branches couldn't take too much power over another. That way, no one could be like a king. I think that they also wanted a system that would actually work for the people and in general, and that's what this system does.

  7. I think that the Forefathers created tree branches of government to create checks and balances. That way laws cannot be passed without many people agreeing that they are correct.

  8. I think they did three branches because then not only one person could make all of the decisions. The bill starts in one branch and then has to get passed by the other in order to get it accepted by the president. They also needed a Judicial branch to make big decisions on really hard cases.

  10. I think that our forefathers created three branches of government because they didn't want one person in power. With this system of government, the president doesn't have power to make any law he wants, but only what the senate agrees on.

  12. I think that they decided to use three different branches of government to divide out the power equally, so they didn't have to be ruled by a king again. It also helps to have many people who specialize in that one thing they're supposed to do, as apposed to having one person doing everything.

  13. They didn’t want one man to be the ruler of everything like the king they had before. They wanted a group to decide so that they make the right choice on the subject. Also it’s easier to keep everything maintained with 3 different groups .
